Coaching Issues & Dilemmas: Character Building Through Sport ParticipationThis book uses a practical approach to help a coach deal with the most agonizing dilemmas a coach must face today. It presents a series of real-life scenarios and demonstrates how a coachs actions and decisions in these situations can send different messages to players. A template is provided to help coaches analyze a problem situation, consider appropriate actions, and set up a meeting with the player to discuss the problem. This analysis allows a coach to anticipate the impact of his or her decisions and actions to be sure that the right message is being sent. The most difficult situations a coach may face are presented, each following the basic template, to ensure that any coach will find this book helpful for just about any problem they may face. In addition to issues involving individual players, the book also deals with issues involving teams, such as problem parents, hazing, and sexual harassment. |
