About the author (2000)

Evelyn Loeb Beilenson was born in Paris in 1938. Her family emigrated to New York City in 1941. She grew up on the Upper West Side. She graduated from Oberlin College with a BA in Early Education. She co-founded a successful interior design company in the 1970s. In 1983, she left it to help her husband revive his family's publishing company, Peter Pauper Press. She wrote or compiled more than 60 books. Her books include Angels are Forever, Simple American Cooking, Wit and Wisdom of Famous American Women, and the children's book, The Zook is Closed Today and many others. She was a publisher for almost 30 years. Evelyn Beilenson died at home in her sleep on October 4, 2021. She was 83.
