Grandma's Off Her RockerThough altered some, the events in bold print in chapter four, "Grandpa's Ghost and Buggy" are based on real ghost encounters. The Hill family and good friends of mine told me that both ghost stories are true, and that they occurred in Underhill, Vermont. Apparently, the previous owners of the house had seen the ghost bride and her fianc , several times. Sometimes in their attic, they could even see the bride in her rocking chair, wearing a wedding dress. One time, after Greg and Janet rented the house, they even saw the ghosts. They said the kitchen scene in chapter four with the flying utensils, had actually happened too! One day, when they were sitting at the table, the plates and cups flew sideways off their shelves, nearly hitting them in the head from six feet away. There were no earthquakes that day. Apparently they learned later, that nearly a hundred years before, the family that used to live in the old house was feuding with Greg's past relatives. Their ghosts were haunting the house, and wanted Greg and his family out! Because of the bazaar haunting, the Hills finally moved out of the house and have never lived there, since. |
