About the author (2011)

Jason Highsmith, MD, is a neurosurgeon who specializes in minimally invasive brain surgery and spine surgery, the latter of which he is an expert in. Highsmith did his residency in neurosurgery at the Medical College of Virginia after finishing his pre-med at Cornell. His research into the treatment of spinal cord injuries with artificial blood products was featured in Popular Science. Highsmith has appeared on local and national news networks and has done humanitarian work in Belize.

Jovanka Milivojevic is a content strategist and writer. She has a number of television broadcasting credits to her name, including work as a field producer for ABC News One.
