Wavelets and Signal Processing: An Application-Based Introduction

Front Cover
Springer Science & Business Media, Apr 1, 2005 - Technology & Engineering - 150 pages

The wavelets transform is a mathematical technique in the field of image compression and digital signal analysis.

The author aims at providing the reader with a working understanding of wavelets. In numerous examples, he discusses the potentials and limits of the tool in industrial applications.

The book is completed by the author`s own Matlab codes.

It is very well suited for electrical engineering students and engineers in industry.

About the author (2005)

Hans-Georg Stark

studied physics at Würzburg University and the State University of New York at Albany (USA). Degrees: Master of Science 1979, Diploma 1981, PhD 1984 (each in theoretical physics). After the PhD, he held scientific positions in academia (Technomathematics Group at Kaiserslautern University) and industry (VDO-Adolf-Schindling AG and TECMATH GmbH), where he worked in reliability analysis (VDO) and image- and signal processing (TECMATH) and coordinated the respective company's activities. Since 1996 he is Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science, first at Würzburg-Schweinfurt-Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences and, since 1999, at Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences. His current research and teaching are in the fields of applied mathematics and signal- and image analysis, and he also serves as an industrial consultant.
