Follow the River
Mary Ingles was twenty-three, married, and pregnant, when Shawnee Indians invaded her peaceful Virginia settlement, killed the men and women, then took her captive. For months, she lived with them, unbroken, until she escaped, and followed a thousand mile trail to freedom--an extraordinary story of a pioneer woman who risked her life to return to her people.

An excellent TRUE story! I gave it 4 only stars because of the uncomfortably detailed brief (easy to skip) portions about sexuality. The violence in the beginning of the book was very intense and shocking, but it is certainly not glorified or normalized. Read full review

I enjoyed this story, however I can't believe all the suffering these two women when through without dying from hypothermia. Way too much to make believable. Read full review
