An interesting book, though one based mostly on the author's own impressions. Not a terrible thing in this case, since Taylor is a bi-cultural, bilingual fellow and thus readily able to give his assessment of how Japan and America differ. A quibble with the sources, most were fairly popular such as newspaper articles and television shows, but the book is hardly framed as a scholarly work. Definitely an easy read. The most amusing thing to me was Taylor's reference to the "empty orchestra", the latest thing in Japan! Or as we now know it, karaoke.

Good overall summary on bad aspects of Japan and Japanese society. More educational rather then critical. Read full review
