When the fiery sun demands the moon's daughter as a bride for his son, the moon hides the child with a kindly old couple on a remote island. Later, when she is discovered again by the son of the sun, she flees to the house of the Brother of the Northern Lights, where she falls in love with Luminias. But their happiness does not last long, as Vanish unwittingly enables the sun to take a bitter vengeance.

About the author (2000)

Holly Young Huth began working with children as an educator. She published poetry and her book "Centerplay" before finding her niche writing children's books. Her books for Atheneum include "The Son of the Sun and The Daughter of the Moon" and "Darkfright." Several months a year, Ms. Huth travels the world with her journalist husband for inspiration. She lives in Gold Hill, Colorado, where she and her family built their own home.

Dandi Daley Mackall is the author of over 400 books and still can't believe she gets to write for a living, helping children of all ages grow spiritually. She and her husband, Joe, both write from rural Ohio, where they're blessed with three children and a variety of horses, dogs, and cats.
