A co-worker copied a couple of pages from this book back in 1987. One of the recipes that I've been making since that time is the pecan pie. It is so delicious. I'm not a pecan pie fan but this pie is great.
Although I had this recipe for 27 years, I had never known which cookbook it came from as I do not remember the co-worker telling me. Thanks to the internet, I was able to find the book. Now I can buy the whole book and make other great recipes.

I've got family born and raised in New Orleans who swear by it. Authentic recipes. Recipes often have comments and historical notes.

The recipe for "Shrimp Stew" is the best I think. It's a back street recipe you can't find anywhere except this book.. Uses potatoes instead of rice for a change. I got this book as a gift when it first came out and have never used another for cajun and creole.

I grew up on this cookbook -- the bread pudding, the pain perdu, the machechoux and gumbo -- it is all fantastic. Wonderful comfort food, never boring, always delicious.
