About the author

The late Gordon W. Prange was a member of the American Occupation Forces in post-World War II Japan, where he was commissioned by Gen. Douglas MacArthur to write the official history of the war in the Pacific from Pearl Harbor to the Japanese surrender. After completing his service to the Navy he served in a civilian capacity from 1946 to 1951 as chief of General MacArthur's historical staff. He authored numerous works on the Pacific war, including At Dawn We Slept. Donald M. Goldstein is a retired United States Air Force officer, professor emeritus of public and international affairs at the University of Pittsburgh, where he taught for thirty-five years, a winner of two Peabody Awards, and author of many books. He has also taught at the Air Force Academy, the Air War College, the Air Command and Staff College, the University of Tampa, and Troy State University. He is considered the leading authority on the Pearl Harbor attack. He lives in the Villages, Florida.
