About the author (2004)

Karen E. Bledsoe is the author of numerous nonfiction books for children. She is currently completing a doctoral degree in Science Education, and she is a Fellow in the Oregon Writing Project at Willamette University June Ponte grew up surrounded by her mother's artwork. She was inspired by tales of her eccentric grandfather, who used a fountain pen to draw majestic schooners on her grandmother's linen tablecloths. June lives with her husband and son in a nineteenth-century farmhouse on the East Coast
