Overcoming Our Racism:

The Journey to Liberation (Google eBook)
Front Cover
5 Reviews
John Wiley & Sons, Nov 10, 2003 - Psychology - 320 pages
This extraordinary book by Derald Wing Sue, a highly-regarded academic and author, helps readers understand and combat racism in themselves. It defines racism not only as extreme acts of hatred, but as "any attitude, action or institutional structure or social policy that subordinates a person or group because of their color." This landmark work offers an antidote to this pervasive social problem.
  • Shows how each of us has a role in the oppression of others, and what we can do about it
  • Offers a way to overcome racism on a very intimate level
  • Outlines specific guidelines and suggested activities

Review: Overcoming Our Racism: The Journey to Liberation

User Review  - Cheryl - Goodreads

This was the most personally difficult book for me to read, as it challenged what it means to be White, but the most rewarding and ultimately freeing book for me. I am currently re-reading this book in order for me to teach my students about awareness of racism within themselves. Read full review

Review: Overcoming Our Racism: The Journey to Liberation

User Review  - Jeff - Goodreads

If this book doesn't make you angry, then there is something wrong with you. However, by becoming angry you will examine things in a different light. You are not bad, but you must become aware of things in the world to help ensure you don't become a racist. Challenging, but worth it. Read full review
