They won the Campeonato Brasileiro S rie A in 1988, and the Ta a Brasil (which was a predecessor to the modern Brazilian League) in 1959, after beating Pel 's Santos. Bahia is the most popular team from the Northeast of Brazil, and is currently participating in the Brazilian Second Division.
