If you are interested in historical brewing and distilling practices, this is an amazing book. It's got just an incredible amount of detail about how the lives of people the world over relate to drink, and in some cases other intoxicants. There are crude recipes, accounts of brewing and distilling apparatuses, and sensus detail about the imports, exports, and use per individual of such beverages. Personally I was most interested in details pertaining directly to beer brewing, and of that there's is not a huge amount, but what there is is very interesting. The real gems though are the descriptions of the ritual uses of spirits by indigenous peoples, and their general attitudes toward them. Really a fascinating read if you have the interest in such things.
