Notable American Women:

The Modern Period : a Biographical Dictionary
Front Cover
Barbary Sicherman, Carol Hurd Green
2 Reviews
Harvard University Press, 1980 - Biography & Autobiography - 773 pages
The supplemental volume includes 442 women who died between January 1, 1951, and December 31, 1975. There was a major effort to include minority women, and foreign-born women are included as well. Criteria for selection include and influence on time or field, a pioneering or innovative quality, the significance of achievement, or relevance of the career in the history of women. The volume follows the pattern of the main set with an excellent introduction, full entries with bibliographies and a classified list of entries. This set should be in middle and high school collections.
