The Identity of Man
The central theme of this book is the crisis of self confidence that springs from each individuals desire to establish his unique identity, in the face of scientific discoveries which seem to show that he is now more than a complicated machine. Dr Bronowski reviews recent discoveries in physics and biology, in particular the progress made in analysing the electrical and chemical process of the brain. In explaining the implications of this new knowledge he redefines the idea of the human self, and by analysing the processes of science and artistic creation, seeks to establish a coherent, humanistic philosophy of man.
