About the author (2006)

Scott Nearing was born in 1883 and died in 1983. He was an educator, peace activist, conservationist, simple-living advocate, and antiracist worker, as well as the author or co-author of several bestselling books. Herbert Kohl is the National Book Award-winning author of more than forty books. He lives in San Francisco.
