Review: The White Man's Burden: Why the West's Efforts to Aid the Rest Have Done So Much Ill and So Little Good

User Review  - Casey - Goodreads

I have been really primed by all of the other authors in this field about what this book is about, so it is hard for me be be impartial in my review of this book. That being said this book is good but ... Read full review

Didn't actually finish this book. Thought the message was clear and strong but Easterly does a poor job of backing it up; he is unrelenting in his use of data and World Bank references. Too anecdotal. What a shame Read full review

Score: 2/5 I made it a bit over halfway through this book. I couldn't take it anymore. William Easterly (and this book in particular) is supposed to be an authority on foreign aid and international ... Read full review

Review: The White Man's Burden: Why the West's Efforts to Aid the Rest Have Done So Much Ill and So Little Good

Ok book, good for research and ideas on this subject but did not find it an easy interesting read. Equally hard on both the Left ($2.5 Trillion in aid with nothing to show for it) and the Right (using ... Read full review

User Review  - Patrick Santana - Goodreads

Meh. Starts out well. Anecdotal. Interesting. But rapidly, Easterly starts repeating himself. His folksy style of writing doesn't mix well with the switch to hard data commentary. A frustrating book! My main issue with Easterly's book was organizational; many of the chapters seemed like slight variations on the same thing. Maybe it would make more sense if he first convinced us ... Read full review

This book was good, but it wasn't what I'd hoped it would be. I thought it would discuss colonialism. Instead, it was more about NGOs and government aid programs, and how they should be transformed ... Read full review

Review: The White Man's Burden: Why the West's Efforts to Aid the Rest Have Done So Much Ill and So Little Good

User Review  - Shiloh - Goodreads

This book showed a lot of what doesn't work in aid relief, with little solution to what does. No doubt it is a daunting task to bringing solutions to the poor, but it made it seem almost hopeless ... Read full review
