About the author (1999)

Siegfried Lenz was born in Lyck, East Prussia, in 1926. He studied in Hamburg. He was a reporter and newspaper editor in the 1950s and ran election campaigns in the 1960s and 70s. His writing is popular in Germany and The Selected Stories of Siegfried Lenz, when published in English, was honored with a Thomas Mann Prize.
