Front Cover
Archiv des Kreises Warendorf, 1988 - Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945) - 168 pages
Jews lived in Warendorf since the Middle Ages, with interruptions (e.g. during the period of the 14th century plague epidemic). Though the Jews' choices of occupation were limited, they integrated into local society. Pp. 29-32 discuss antisemitism in general and in Warendorf before the Nazi regime. The rest of the book deals with the Nazi period - the boycott of April 1933, the Nuremberg Laws, the exclusion of Jews from economic life, the "Kristallnacht" pogrom, the Aryanization of Jewish businesses and the confiscation of private property. 32 Jews emigrated; 15 were murdered in extermination camps.
