The textbook is an adequate primer for teaching the fundamentals of process synthesis, but still requires a fair amount of editing before it could be used to truly prepare students for future chemical engineering coursework. The book is full of errors -- as evident in the extensive errata portion of the text -- as well as suffering from ambiguity in wording of the practice questions. The homework problems are numerous and challenging, but unlike the custom for most textbooks, really only contains a fourth of the answers for those problems. Only odd-numbered questions are answered (as is typical), but oftentimes incompletely (multi-step problems are usually only half-finished). There is no solutions manual available for students, so while that ensures no plagiarizing, it also ensures students don't have a resource to practice additional problems or check their work.
