About the author (2011)

trained as a geographer at the University of Natal, South Africa. He has traveled widely across the United States and has contributed to many focusing on nature and conservation.

Philip Briggs is a travel writer and tour guide who specializes in East and Southern Africa. He was born in Britain and raised in South Africa; he has written many travel guides and other books on the African continent. He also has written for many naturalist magazines.

Marielle Renssen, who lives in South Africa, was a Publishing Manager for Struik. She has successfully run two marathons and countless half marathons and 30km (18 miles) races, and has completed the tough The Foot of Africa marathon. Marielle co-wrote "Marathon Runner's Handbook" (New Holland) with Bruce Fordyce, and is the author of the "Complete Running Manual" (New Holland, 2007)
