Well, I finally got around to reading this-- I really had no idea what to expect. The back cover said something about it being "a passionate romance between Daisy Buchanan and Jay Gatsby." Then why did Nick Carraway(Daisy's second cousin once removed) have to narrate it? I thought that was a rather wierd choice. Anyways, their romance wasn't as "rollicking" and "passionate" as I expected. At most, this book was decent... I did really like how much insight it provided on 1920s America... how, they talked, dressed, and acted-- how all of the parties went, loud and colorful with jazz music blaring out of every nook and crannie. As for characters, Nick Carraway was likable, so was Gatsby and his cute little "old sport" quotes-- Daisy and Tom Buchanan, on the other hand... not so much. I found them to be very naive, ignorant, and vain. Looking back at the story, there was a lot of foreshadowing hinting at Gatsby's proffession (I'll let you discover that). It was some very clever writing on Mr. Fitzgerald's part. As for the ending, it was very disappointing (I'm a strong believer in happy endings and (SPOILER ALERT) that's not what you get.) Overall an interesting read if you have some time to spare. ES.
