About the author (1970)

Robert U. Ayres has pioneered highly acclaimed research that bridges environmental science and economics. He is a leading figure in the emerging fields of industrial ecology and industrial metabolismaa concept he originated and one that has had a growing influence on environmental science and environmental economics. He is currently emeritus professor of economics and technology at the European international business school INSEAD. He has also been INSEADas chair of environment and managementaamong numerous other international academic appointments in technology, economics, and public policy. Dr. Ayres has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and written or co-authored 18 books on economic and scientific subjects. He lives with his wife in Paris.
