I liked the differences in voice and point of view from different characters. It made for very interesting and sometimes funny reading. It does make you stop and thing about all that we take for granted and whether we are better off or not.
There were a few times when it got a little slow or bogged down in the political situation, but it all seemed fairly relevant to the situation and it never lasted long.

OMG, brilliant. Kingsolver's prose is tight and moving. The characters (mostly the daughters) are stunningly real, heartbreaking, and desperate. The irony of the title isn't lost. And the early scene with the feast...if that doesn't hook you, nothing will. Read full review

I loved this book. The story is engaging and eye-opening. The changing perspectives really help to illustrate the complications and misunderstandings that underlie both personal and global tragedies. Read full review

I am envious of the characters in this book. I am a lover of cultures, especially when they change things that you always took for granted to be true or constant. Leah was by far my favorite character, always leaving me admiring her and wanting to read more. Read full review

Beautifully written and an engaging story with an added bonus of history. It took me a while to get into but once I got to know the characters it was hard to put down. Read full review

It could have been a few hundred pages shorter; the different point of views were all saying the exact same thing just in a different way, and I didn't think it was that well written. Read full review

I finally read this book. Chapters written by different sisters and mother. So much better than I expected. The author got into each character and defined them and the circumstances so vividly. I felt ... Read full review
