Just finished reading what I expected to be footnote biography. However, in juxtaposition to the party politics that we are witnessing today (Obama/Romney) it provides fascinating insight. The author references misconceptions of the man and the presidency but doesn't overdue it. Makes we want to read more about his contemporaries to get a clearer view of the era. Not a "can't put it down" tome but very worthwhile to students of Presidential history.

Review: President James Buchanan: A Biography

User Review  - Alex - Goodreads

Great read on his life in Pennsylvania before becoming President, good read for when he was in office, but rather disappointing in what was going on after he left the office (on the eve of the Civil War). Read full review
