What would you do if you were told you had to fight for your own life? The contagious Yellow Fever is spreading throughout the town and Matilda’s mother, Lucille catches it. Lucille forces Matilda and her father to flee the city leaving their business, Matilda’s mother, and their lives behind them. Matilda and her family own a coffee house and for them to leave it could mean someone breaking into it. Next, someone could steal the food and supplies in their coffeehouse. Lastly, someone could claim it as their own business. Fleeing the city meant leaving Lucille behind who had the Yellow Fever. Leaving Matilda’s mother behind meant they couldn’t talk or communicate with her. Furthermore, Matilda and her grandfather wouldn’t know if she was getting better. Lastly, they wouldn’t know if Lucille had died. By leaving their town they left their lives behind them. For instance, there could have been a chance of Matilda and her grandfather not returning. In fact, by the time they returned, their town could have been abandoned. In the end, they might have had to start a new life in a different town. The book, Fever 1793, by Laurie Halse Anderson teaches readers to take advantage and cherish moments with family and friends. I don't usually enjoy reading Historical-Fiction books. This is one book that I really enjoyed. This is a book that you should definitely read. It shows you the struggle that the people of 1793 had during fever.
