This short book (47 pages) is really meant for juveniles, but it was filed in the adult section at the South Oxnard branch library.
I believe it was meant for the teen section because it has a glossary of words, at the end of the book, which most adults would know. These words include arc, corrupt, decapitated, downfall, haste, outwit, trickery, and such. You decide.
It's very well illustrated and the writing is fine. But the myths are somewhat confusing and I found it difficult to understand the etiology of these myths, how they developed and evolved. There is little information on that aspect of the myths, so that may be why they seem so fantastical.
I wanted to laugh and look down my nose at these unsophisticated Mesoamerican "Indians" for such silly notions to explain the world and it's environment, but I know that would be wrong and incorrect.
One thing I guess I will never fully understand is their interest in human sacrifice. Read it and see what you think.
