About the author (1979)

BARBARA WILLIAMS is the author of Titanic Crossing (Dial), a nationally best-selling novel that has won four state children's choice awards and has been nominated for several more. In her travels around the country to meet some of her hundreds of thousands of young fans, Mrs. Williams was asked many times to write a sequel to Titanic Crossing. The idea for the sequel came as she was thinking about the unequal treatment of the first- and third-class passengers aboard the Titanic -- a concern shared by the characters in Making Waves.

Barbara Williams has written many popular books for young people, including Albert's Toothache, a School Library Journal Best Book of the Year, and Mitzi and the Terrible Tyrannosaurus Rex, the first book of a series that has been translated into German and Spanish. She lives with her husband in Salt Lake City, Utah.
