The devil's arithmetic
Hannah resents stories of her Jewish heritage and of the past until, when opening the door during a Passover Seder, she finds herself in Poland during World War II where she experiences the horrors of a concentration camp, and learns why she-- and we--need to remember the past.

I read this book in 6th grade and I remember really enjoying it. It's a really good book about the concentration camps and the Holocaust.

I read with this with my ten year old daughter. It starts a bit slowly and the story didn't draw her in immediately, but I'm glad we didn't give up on it. A tearjerker of an ending put an exclamation point on the horrors of the holocaust that Yolen so effectively brings to life. Read full review
