Herald Press, 1938 - Biography & Autobiography - 1157 pages
Martyrs Mirror is a record of the path of the early martyrs. The price of their own life, limbs, and blood was a gift they gladly gave to preserve what they believed to be a pure faith and the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. Tortures, persecutions, and sufferings were endured with a fortitude and heroism that is unparalleled in history.

This book changed my view of Church History and was greatly encouraging to me personally. I had always thought that the history of Christianity was like this: the first few centuries were pretty good, then the Church became gradually worse and worse until finally the Reformation was a great liberation which brought things back to the Scriptures, changed the face of the world, and was the greatest event of the past 1000 years. But as I saw more an more how far from the Scriptures much of the "Reformation" and subsequent cultures affected by it really were, I became more and more perplexed. Anyone who longs for true Christianity--anyone who feels like a perpetual outcast because they just want to obey the New Testament at face value and feels alone amidst a sea of compromise--anyone who wants to have a true 20/20 on the history of the Church of Jesus Christ--anyone who wonders why what is called "the Chu...
