Nancy's FIASCO, actually, way "While the Clock Ticked" infamously was for Frank and Joe Hardy
She could plead inexperience, just her 6th case, Hardys' was their 11th (and should have have
NEVER been a 12th!).
Nancy at least was helping nice Joanne Byrd and her grandmother save Red Gate Farm while the Hardys risked their lives for a banker who showed he was NOT WORTH IT. While those idiots walked themselves right into the hands of the crook with the bomb, Nancy equally foolishly went into the cave of counterfeiters in disguise, NEVER APPARANTLY OCCURING TO HER THEY WOULD TAKE THEIR HOODS OFF INSIDE! She did WORSE than the hapless Hardys. They just landed themselves abjectly helpless bound and gagged with the time-bomb realizing "only a miracle could save them"--that banker they thought they were rescuing had, incredibly, selfishly, GONE ON A BUSINESS TRIP NOT TELLING ANYONE. But Nancy got Bess, George and Joanne caught with her as well. Where Callie and Iola cruelly mocked the Hardys , her friends are actually berating Nancy--"I really ought to have my head examined!" George shouted."I knew this was far too dangerous to try," cried Bess.
Both Hardys and Nancy in the end COULDN'T SAVE THEMSELVES --but least Nancy rescued by respectable authorities, Treasury Agents, while the Hardys had to be humiliatingly be saved by numbskull Chet (and were too cowardly to admit it later). Finally where there was cover-up party by Callie and Iola private joke getting even being ditched at the dance to save Hardys' reputation--if those girls were laughing at them, think what would be the treatment the boys would get in Bayport!--Nancy in a suprising lapse in taste makes a tacky tourist trap of cave!.
See my reviews of both verisons of "While the Clock Ticked" where Frank and Joe SAVE CALLIE from the time-bomb.(find original by looking up other Hardys stories, scrolling to bottom, click on it). Here Nancy should have got away, been dragged back in later by hooded purusers, one of whom suprises gang by pulling out gun. Then the Treasury Agents appeared with the real pursuers bound and gagged! Nancy had found the agents outside, they caught the pursuers, Nancy volunteered to go back in posing as prisoner to catch gang off guard, prevent shooting endangering girls. She later saves the Red Gate Farm GIVING REWARD MONEY to Byrds, NOT tourist trap!.
