I loved this book when I was a kid, but on rereading I found it had some issues (mentioned by previous reviewers upthread). What it does well, and still does well, is atmosphere. It's genuinely creepy, which is hard to pull off. (Also, I love the cover art on this printing.) Read full review

Not really a book you can enjoy as an adult. I liked it much more as a kid when the story would've seemed a lot more fun and the mystery a lot more intriguing. It's still a nice story but I found the writing style rather clunky and really aimed at younger kids. Read full review
