I has been a while since I read this, but I remember enjoying it. The reader will want to approach it cautiously, as it has been shown that Anna Leonowens is not reliable, even when recounting her own life, but it can still be read as a collection of tales. I recommend reading Bombay Anna: The Real Story and Remarkable Adventures of the King and I Governess for more about Anna Leonowens, who was a pretty remarkable woman, even if she did embroider the facts.
Review: The Romance of the HaremUser Review - John - Goodreads
A follow up to Anna and the King of Siam story. Only ok. An interesting snapshot of the time (1860's) but not a book for everyone. Read full review
