This is a second year programme consisting of a grammar review text and a co-ordinated reader. It offers students the opportunity to refine previously acquired skills, while moving them toward increasing proficiency and preparing them for more advanced studies in Spanish. The text is designed to increase students' abilities with the four basic skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking, using materials which are both informative and culturally appropriate. Units and chapters are co-ordinated by theme, by grammar focus and by vocabulary across the series and the text is opened by a preliminary unit, followed by six regular units, each divided into two chapters. Themes used include music and dance, cultural diversity and the environment and pair and group activities are used to aid learning and encourage dialogue.

About the author (1997)

Lydia Velez Roman has a Ph.D. in Spanish American Literature from the University of California, Irvine. She has published articles, poetry, and short stories in literary magazines here in the US and in Latin America. One of her poems, "A las mujeres" was set to music and included in a performance at the Centro de Bellas Artes in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
