Harris' book gives a complete description of precision mechanical (moving
coil) test instruments manufactured in the early to mid-1900s. They were
often mounted in glued wood enclosures to avoid magnetic influences.
The meters were used by the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) to establish
electrical values used in the sale and billing of electrical power generated
by hydroelectric dams and coal fired generation plants.
Today, these meters are collected by individuals and museums. who would
appreciate the comprehensive treatment given in this book. It will be of
great interest for anyone collecting, displaying, or restoring moving coil
meters (or panel mounted devices such as thermocouple controlled temperature
regulators). This will include museum curators, individual collectors, and
those interested in the limitations of mechanical meters which gave rise to
digital electronic instrumentation.
This book needs to be made available as an e-book.
