"Written in three volumes over the course of twenty year, J.F.C. Fuller's Decisive battles of the western world has become an irreplaceable classic of military history. Together the trilogy covers 2500 years of warfare, from the battles fought by the ancient Greeks in the 5th century BC to the very end of the Second World War. Each battle described is a turning point in history, a moment of conflict between great powers, the outcome of which has changed the face of the world. The work as a whole is brilliantly organized, with a chronicle before each chapter describing the background to the battle in question, and numerous maps, plans and diagrams to provide clarity"--Dust jacket.
