Storytellers: a biographical directory of 120 English-speaking performers worldwide
The latter part of the twentieth century has seen a renaissance of the enduring spoken art of storytelling. Stories told by real people, in person, counterbalance the impersonal, computer communication so much a part of present society. This work profiles 120 English-speaking performers worldwide and describes how they make their words come alive, what their styles of presentation are. Each entry provides pertinent information on the storyteller (address, phone and fax numbers, e-mail address, and Web site information), categorizes their work (e.g., original tales, imaginative stories, historical), notes the audience level, and lists the instruments or props used. Style comments, such as witty, dramatic, gesturing, musical, and so on are also given. Detailed biographies reveal how the storyteller got started and their career achievements and other pertinent details. The entries conclude with an audiography,
