Mathematical techniques used in solving technical problems that arise in electrical, mechanical, aeronautical, and thermal branches of engineering. Calculating machines and computers enable us to solve a greater range of problems requiring analytical formulations. Mathematical technology can be divided into four main categories and their combinations. (a) linear lumped systems; (2) linear distributed systems; (3) nonlinear lumped and distributed systems; (4) statistical methods and probability, although very little is provided on the latter theory. The chapters on matrix algebra, Fourier methods, variational methods, Laplace transforms, and nonlinear differential equations have been expanded. A section on Cartesian tensors was added to the chapter on vector analysis.
