This is not your usual "survivor story" but it is gripping nevertheless. The detail in the story from before, during, and after the War gives one a sense of having been there, and you really get a sense of the differences between the priveleged life of the character Anya and her family prior to the Nazi invasion and the hardscrabble aftermath.

I stumbled across this in the library when I was in high school and the beautiful story still haunts me 10 years later. Excellent read!! Read full review
