If you're interested in the environment and would like to see how scientific research can proceed in ways that tie in a variety of fields and in non-traditional ways, this is an excellent read. While written in an autobiographical way, Ebbesmeyer provides a view of the insights possible with open-minded multidisciplinary research. From beachcoming to simulation modeling to providing an honest view of the overall impacts of global warming on oceanic currents, this is a book I'd highly recommend. The question becomes how each one of us can individually make a difference so that the gyres continue to ring in their true harmonies.
Read - learn - understand - and *do*.
