I've found this to be a very handy little guide, covering trees, flowers and fungi as well as animals of all types. It's not as comprehensive as the thick specialist tomes on each type of wildlife, but much easier to use and it covers most of the more common species. Read full review

About the author (2005)

VINCENT CARRUTHERS is a well-known environmentalist and author. He co-authored South African Frogs: A Complete Guide. He is a Director of the North West Parks and Tourism Board, Delta Environmental Centre and the Sustainable Tourism Research Institute. He is a past Executive Director of the Wildlife and Environment Society and Chairman of BirdLife South Africa.
