About the author (2008)

Wallace Wattles was born in 1860; he was a plain man, undistinguished, who, like most of us, spent many years struggling, just to make ends meet. Later in his life, he discovered the powerful "New Thought" movement, and threw himself, heart and soul, into the mental and spiritual transformation that would ultimately leave it's mark in history. Perhaps his daughter describes his character and accomplishments best- "Father began a Sunday night lectureship in Indianapolis. This was our only source of income. Later he began to write for Nautilus and to word out his own philosophy. He wrote almost constantly. Then it was that he formed his mental picture. He saw himself as a successful writer, a personality of power, an advancing man, and he began to work toward the realization of this vision... In the last three years he made lots of money, and had good health..."Mr. Wattles died very shortly after the publication of "The Science of Getting Rich". Apparently, his great Soul had accomplished what it set out to do... I wonder, what would Mr. Wallace Wattles think of his accomplishments from our 21st Century vantage point? He has quietly, and nearly anonomously, influenced many generations! "Whatever may be said in praise of poverty, the fact remains that it is not possible to live a really complete or successful life unless one is rich. No man can rise to his greatest possible height in talent or soul development unless he has plenty of money; for to unfold the soul and to develop talent he must have many things to use, and he cannot have these things unless he has money to buy them with." ~ Wallace Wattles
