In July 1993, 12-year-old Melissa Rodriguez of Brooklyn, New York was vacationing in Daytona Beach, Florida, when an eight-foot tiger shark attacked her in waist-deep water. Jerked underwater, unable to swim, she fought off the predator, which only let go after leaving three teeth lodged in her leg.
