Disposable: A History of Skateboard Art
This is a survey of over 1000 skateboard graphics from the last 30 years. Alongside his own history, Sean Cliver has assembled a wealth of recollections and stories from prominent artists and skateboarders such as Wes Humpston, Jim Phillips, Lance Mountain, Pushead, Ed Templeton, John Lucero, Mike Hill, Chris Miller, Jason Jessee, Steve Caballero, Ron Cameron, Jim Thiebaud, Jason Lee, Garry Davis, Tod Swank, Tony Hawk, Andy Howell, Steve Rocco, Natas Kaupas, Andy Jenkins, Todd Francis, Marc McKee, Mike Vallely, John Grigley, Jeff Grosso, Jim Muir, Craig Stecyk, Eric Dressen, Todd Bratrud, Neil Blender, Claus Grabke, Jeremy Klein, Bam Margera, John Gibson, Tommy Guerrero, Mike McGill, Rodney Mullen, Christian Hosoi, Don Brown, Thomas Campbell, Barry McGee, Jef Hartsel, Corey O'Brien, Rob Roskopp, Steve Alba, Simon Woodstock, and many others. The end result is a historical account of art in the skateboard subculture, as told by those directly involved with shaping its legendary creative face.

The first thing you do is find all of your old skateboard decks. The second thing you do is read the story behind the artwork. Both are satisfying, but for completely different reasons. Scrolling through these graphics is like using a crystal ball. So many images have permeated our collective social consciousness. To think - flameboy was just a throwaway character. Now I feel the same way, just because it's so over-saturated that I feel no need to preserve the image.
