About the author (1996)

Sir Martin Holdgate is one of the world's leading conservationists. He was, until 1994, Executive Director of IUCN, and is currently President of the Zoological Society of London, co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Forests, and a member of the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution. He was a contributor to the World Conservation Strategy (1980), and a principal author of Caring for the Earth (1992).
