About the author (1987)

Simmons is a historian. He recevied his bachelor's degree from Miami University, Ohio, and a doctorate in nineteenth-century British literature from the University of Berkeley. Before becoming a full-time writer, he taught courses on British and American literature at Boston University and San Diego State University.
