About the author (1998)

Burkett, a military researcher, was co-chairman of the Texas Vietnam Memorial. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee. He served in Vietnam with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

Whitley, an award-winning investigative reporter, specializes in writing about crime and the legal system. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University. She is senior editor at D Magazine in Dallas.
