Solid and well-written summary of the revolutionary period. The real gems of the book are Ferling's commentaries - he writes for an audience generally familiar with early American history, and doesn't waste too much time on setting the familiar scenes like Shayes and Whiskey rebellians, the Hamilton/Jefferson feud, and so on. Ferling delivers the narrarive in a way that brings the reader into what I imagine was a contemporary feel for the political debates.
