This book is like the music of South Africa (I wish this country had a real name), when you're away from home any song or beat from home makes you nostalgic. You just want to run home to the bossom of Motherland and feel her warmth and love. I'm home but everytime I go through the pages of African Salad I miss home. The pics just make you realise what a beautiful place and home we have here. Big ups to Stan & Tamsen and thanx for having the Makhene Family recipe' of Umqombothi. Blondie Makhene.

African Salad is a photographic trek to find lekker South African flavour.
This book is enough to make anyone longing for the smells and sounds of South Africa feel very homesick, so purchase with caution or at the very least with a flight booked home, just in case! This book has very little to do with salads. Over a period of one-and-a-half years, 120 South African families opened their doors to photographer Stan Engelbrecht. The result is an astoundingly honest portrait of family life and the food that South Africans come home to, handwritten family recipes stand alongside tin-can specials, morogo or biltong.
African Salad is a record of an extensive journey across the dusty platteland and sprawling townships of South Africa, exploring the real lives of a nation of raconteurs, eccentrics and everyday people.
